Cancellation
Cancel a Pro project any time. No retention email gauntlet, no support ticket required.
How to cancel
Project settings → Billing → Cancel Pro.
Confirm. Done.
What happens
- Right now: nothing visible changes. Your project continues running on Pro until the end of your current billing period.
- At the end of the billing period: project drops to Free.
- Pro features stop: AI chat widget hides, full-text search bar reverts to keyboard search, doc versioning becomes read-only (you can still see previous versions, but new publishes don't snapshot).
- Your content stays intact. Every page, every image, every setting. You can still edit and publish on Free.
- Your custom domain stays connected. SSL keeps working.
What's lost on Free
After dropping to Free:
- Pro-only features stop (chat widget, search bar, etc.).
- Doc versioning shows existing versions but doesn't add new ones. If you upgrade back to Pro, new versioning resumes.
- Team members lose write access (Free is solo). They can still see the editor as Viewers.
- Analytics data range shrinks to 7 days (older data preserved server-side; just hidden in the UI until you re-upgrade).
Nothing is deleted. Resuming Pro later instantly restores everything.
Re-upgrading
Project settings → Billing → Upgrade to Pro. Bills immediately, prorated. All Pro features resume on the spot.
Cancelling vs deleting
Cancellation drops Pro features but keeps the project. To fully remove a project (content, custom domain, MCP servers, everything):
Project settings → Danger zone → Delete project.
Deletion is irreversible. The project name becomes available again, the custom domain is released, the URL <slug>.docs.docsio.co becomes available for someone else.
We retain a backup for 30 days post-deletion in case of accidental deletion — contact support within 30 days to restore. After 30 days, gone for good.
Refund policy
We don't pro-rate refunds for partial-month cancellations — you keep the time you've already paid for. If you cancel today and your billing period ends in 18 days, you have 18 more days of Pro access.
For unusual situations (you were charged in error, technical issues prevented you from using Pro, etc.), contact support — we'll make it right.
Free → Pro → Free → Pro
Totally fine. Lots of users go through this cycle as their needs change. Each upgrade is a fresh prorated bill; no penalty for switching.
Other reasons to "cancel"
- Downgrading. Cancel Pro on the project. Stays Free with your content.
- Pausing. No native pause; cancel and re-upgrade later when needed.
- Closing the company. Delete the project. We won't keep billing you for content you've abandoned. (We will email you if a card declines repeatedly.)
