Per-project pricing

Pro is billed per project. If you have three docs sites, two Pro and one Free, you pay for the two Pro at $60 each.

This is unusual — most docs platforms have per-seat pricing or per-account pricing. We chose per-project because most teams build a docs site for one product and don't need 40 seats. You pay for what you use, no per-user math.

When Pro pays for itself

A few simple tests:

Custom branding matters. If the "Built with Docsio" badge would be a problem for your brand, Pro removes it.
You hit the AI agent limit. 10 messages/month is generous for steady-state but easy to blow through during onboarding or a big rewrite. Pro removes the limit.
You want the chat widget. It's the highest-leverage Pro feature for sites with substantial docs — visitors who would otherwise email support can self-serve.
You have a team. Free is solo-only. Pro is unlimited team members.

When Free is enough

Solo founder, single docs site, modest editing volume.
You're testing whether docs improve your product. Don't pay until you've confirmed the value.
You're using Docsio for personal/internal docs and don't need fancy features.

Switching

Free → Pro: project settings → Billing → Upgrade to Pro. Charged immediately, prorated. New features unlock instantly.

Pro → Free: project settings → Billing → Cancel Pro. You stay on Pro until the end of your current billing period, then drop to Free. Pro features stop working but your content stays intact.

The short version: Docsio is the only platform that generates your initial docs from your existing site, and we cost less than Mintlify, GitBook, or ReadMe at comparable feature levels.

Bootstrapped

Docsio is bootstrapped. No VC. We answer to customers, not investors. Pricing exists to cover the cost of running the platform plus a margin we can sustain — not to satisfy growth investors. That's why we charge less and don't have an enterprise upsell.
